Edinburgh Castle? Not quite even though the hills depicted on this stunning engraving are indeed those of Scotland's capital. Illustrated here is the Edinburgh Bridewell Prison designed by architect Robert Adam (1728-1792). The engraving, titled “The New Bridewell, Salisbury Crags and Arthur's Seat from Calton Hill” dates from 1829. Engraved by W. Tombleson after drawing by Thomas Hosmer Shepherd.
