This original watercolour by famed Canadian artist and museum director Kenneth Saltmarche is titled Bougainvillea and Periwinkle. Saltmarche was an artist, an art director, and an author. Born in Cardiff, Wales, Saltmarche moved to Ontario with his parents in 1924. He studied art at the Cass Technical Institute in Detroit and at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto. In 1960, he was appointed as the director of the Art Gallery of Windsor (now Art Windsor-Essex) where he played a crucial role in developing the gallery’s collection. In 2018, the Art Gallery of Windsor organized an important exhibition, Kenneth Saltmarche: Dedicated Visions, of his work.
The watercolour presented here is a rare opportunity to acquire one of Saltmarche’s works. The framed piece is signed, titled and dated.
